NEW YEAR - NEW PERSPECTIVE

Routine is a powerful tool for productivity - The unknown nurtures creativity.

PRODUCTIVITY

Our brains our habitual and spacially oriented. Our location often ques what’s next: kitchen, office, bedroom. If you want to get things done, dedicate a space for work and don’t play there. If you need help relaxing at night, don’t bring work into your bedroom. For me, walking into a coffee shop now signals it’s time to do some focused writing.

CREATIVITY

I can be really creative within my routine, but typically within certain boundaries, working on focused issues. I find my biggest ideas, those life-altering epiphanies where you realize you’ve been tackling the wrong problem or are in need of major course correction, come from breaking the routine. When we’re experiencing the unfamiliar, it’s as if we wake up. We’re no longer operating off our subconscious, and we can see things from a wider more objective perspective.

CHALLENGE:

Step out of your life.

Take an unplanned walk or drive someplace new. Notice how time slows down.

For the most dramatic effects visit a new culture. Learn about another way of life. Leave the notifications behind and let your mind wander.

What can you do to make this the best year yet!?
